PUTNAM — The Putnam Lodge of Elks’ Soccer Shootout was a success and will be sending almost a full complement of competitors to the District shootout in Groton this weekend.
Elks officials said that it had been a while since the lodge had put on a soccer shootout. They had tried it in different places around town and did not have a good turnout.
But the turnout this year was “great” and they credit the flyers sent out to all youth organizations and an interview on WINY Radio. The Danielson Elks lodge helped out.
For kids between 4 and 7, there is one practice shot and three shots for scoring. For all the older kids, there are three practice shots allowed first and then 15 shots for official scoring.
One boy and one girl from each age group are sent to the District competition in Groton. The state competition in East Windsor follows and then the regional competition in Vermont. After that is the national competition.
In the 4-7 division, the Elks are sending: Ada Gustavesen and Connor Tryon; In the 8-9: William Gustavesen; In the 10-11: Dominic Kostovski and Makaila Roy.; In the 12-13 division: Jadelyn Baumuller. Also taking part were Bradley Tryon, Colton O’Brien and Finley Presto.
