March 4 the Clippers girls traveled to Coginchaug High School for a second-round state game. It was a fierce battle that saw the team trailing 21-20 at halftime and leading by seven points with 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Coginchaug rallied to take the lead in the last two minutes of the game. Things just did not fall into place for the Clippers as they fell in a heartbreaking 42-45 defeat, said coach Willie Bousquet.
Katelyn Tarr had 28 points and Regan Guillot eight points as the Clippers closed out the season at 15 wins and 8 defeats to go along with their ECC small division title.
Earlier in the week, March 1,  the Putnam girls' basketball team hosted Derby High School in a Class S first-round game and took the win. The game was a see-saw battle with Putnam trailing by eight points with 3 minutes and 37 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
The come back started with a Regan Guillot three-pointer and ended with a winning basket with 15 seconds from Katelyn Tarr. The final score was 41-39. Putnam was lead by Katelyn Tarr with 20 points and Derby was lead by Mary Hyde with 15 points.
