Little
Leaguers
eliminated
The boys major division was eliminated last week with losses to Lebanon and Norwich. Lebanon’s defense was the story holding Putnam to just two runs in a 4-2 nailbiter. Jacob Guertin pitched for Putnam and held the Labanon team to just two hits. He also helped himself by scoring a run and driving in the other Putnam run. Putnam tried to keep it close but 4 errors in the field cost them the game. Nathan Tozzi had a great game at the plate, went 2-2 with a double and scoring a run. Putnam had runners on every inning but could not push anyone across. Jon Luc Cournoyer went 2-2 and had a walk. Kyle Ciquera went 2-3 and had two great stops at first base.
Two days later the boys traveled to Norwich looking for a win. Kyle Ciquera homered in the first and Putnam’s pitcher, Nicholas Foucault, struck out one batter and the next two flied out. After a clean first inning it seemed Putnam would right the ship. During the second inning two errors and a passed ball kept the inning alive as Norwich scored three runs. Norwich scored every inning after that staking themselves a 10-1 lead in the fifth inning. Suddenly the Putnam bats came alive and began to find the ball. With two out Jacob Guertin hit a single. Followed by a single by Nick Foucault. Kyle Ciquera singled and drove in Guertin. Up came Jon Luc Cournoyer to belt a homerun over the center field fence. The score was now 10-5 and Putnam went to the bullpen and put Steven Dakai on the mound. Norwich went hit less in the inning and Dakai struck out two. The sixth started with three straight singles by Dakai, Shawn Audet and Kyle Loomis who all scored on an RBI double by Guertin. That made the score 10-8 and the tying run was at the plate. Guertin stole third but that would be as close as he would get to scoring as the third out was made. Norwich had held on and eliminated Putnam from the tournament.
The Putnam Boys 11/12 team had a great season and really became a group of 13 best friends. They are: Timim Aldarawcheh, Joshua Allard, Cole Andersen, Shawn Audet, Kristian Burke, Kyle Ciquera, Jon Luc Cournoyer, Steven Dakai, Nicholas Foucault, Jacob Guertin, Brevon Harmon, Kyle Loomis, Nathan Tozzi. They are coached by Joe Loomis, John Foucault and Steven Dakai.
The Putnam Little League will be having an All Star Game for the Boys Major Division at 1 p.m. Aug. 1 at Murphy Park. The boys 9/10 (minors) and 11/12 (majors) team will be mixed into two teams, the Americans and the Nationals.
