PUTNAM — The Lady Clippers continue their winning ways April 25. The Clippers made it two in a row by beating arch rival Ellis Tech 18-3.
Winning pitcher Taylor Trudeau, now 2-1 on the season, also went 2-4 at the plate with a triple and four RBIs. Kaylee Shippee went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Freshman Caitlyn Verrette added a double and Erica Anderson got her first hit of the season. Senior Stephanie Baumuller came in to seal the deal in the fourth and fifth inning by striking out 5 of the 6 batters she faced.
“I’m very proud of the way the girls have been playing the last week or so. I just hope we can keep it going,” said coach Steve Smith.
On April 27 the Lady Clippers softball team made it 3 in a row with a win over Prince Tech 11-5. The Lady Clippers were led by senior Stephanie Baumuller who pitched a gem of a game only allowing 3 hits (2 in the 7th inning) and had 14 strikeouts. Stephanie also went 1-2 at the plate with a bases loaded double that cleared the bases to give Putnam a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning.
“ I am so proud of the way these girls have been grinding it out," said coach Smith. "When Stephanie pitches like that and we get a few breaks, we have a very good chance of winning the game. Our hitting has also been improving (only 3 strikeouts in the last 2 games) and our base running has greatly improved," he added.
