Larry C. Vesely,

DANIELSON — Larry C. Vesely, 46, of Broad Street, Danielson, died May 8, 2012, unexpectedly at home. He was born Oct. 24, 1965, in Portsmouth, Va., son of Charles Vesely of Florida and the late Winifred Grace (Bryson) Vesely. He was a life resident of the area and attended Killingly schools. He was employed as a caregiver for the State of Connecticut DMR for over 25 years. He was a member of the Attawaugan Fire Department and enjoyed fishing and working on cars. He had a great sense of humor.
He leaves, in addition to his father Charles, his wife Sandra Vesely of Putnam; daughters: Jennifer Vesely of Pomfret, Cassandra Vesely of Chepachet; stepson Shane Chapman of Sterling; sister Laura, Margaret, Katherine; brother Robert Vesely; uncle Joe and aunt Marie; best friend Cynda. He was predeceased by his mother; daughter Heather Vesely in 2006; brother Robert. Calling Hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 16 at Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam, CT. Burial will be at a later date.

WILLIMANTIC --- Marie S. Bernier, 67, formerly of Putnam, died May 8, 2012, at Windham Hospital in Willimantic. She was the wife of the late Francis Bernier who died in 1987.
She was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Rumford, Maine, daughter of the late Dominic and Antoinette Perretti. Marie liked to sew.
She leaves four children: Patricia Bernier of Dayville, Joseph Bernier of Danielson, James Bernier of Woodstock and Pamela Chase of Putnam; sisters: Janet, Linda, Marleen; brother Dominic “Peter”; grandchildren: Anthony, Trevor, Jacob, James, Zachary, Ashley, Autumn, Josh, Nick, Craig and a soon-to-be great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her sister Nancy.
A Graveside Service will be at 11 a.m. May 19 in the St. Mary Cemetery, Providence Street, Putnam. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Doris A. Ashley,

POMFRET — Doris A. Ashley, 91, of Pomfret, formerly of Dartmouth, Mass., died May 2, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Mass. Doris was born May 19, 1920, in Fall River, Mass., daughter of the late Harry and Mary “May” (Day) Best.
She worked as a bookkeeper in New Bedford. Doris was a Quaker and a member of the Society of Friends Sandwich Quarter. She loved to help others, knit and play cards.
She leaves her children: Jonathan Ashley of N. Dartmouth, Peter Ashley (Priscilla) of S. Dartmouth, Karen Franculli (Tony) of Pomfret Center; grandchildren: Peter, Mathew, Sarah, Michael, Paul, David, Michael, Samantha, Ashley; four great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by a son, Leland Ashley and a brother, Robert Best.

Estelle Novack Konesni,

POMFRET CENTER — Estelle Novack Konesni, 98, of Wrights Crossing Road died May 14, 2012, at Matulaitis Home in Putnam. She was the wife of the late Erwin Konesni, who died in 1970.
Born March 28, 1914, Sterling, she was the daughter of the late William and Josephine (Listkoski) Novack, the second child of immigrant parents.
She graduated from Plainfield High in 1931 and continued her education at Eastern Connecticut State University, graduating in 1934. Estelle was a devoted wife, mother, dedicated teacher and avid advocate of education for over 35 years. She began her teaching career in a one-room school in Canterbury, and then went on to teach in Pomfret and Sterling. She spent the last 25 years of active teaching in Putnam Elementary School retiring in 1979. During her retirement she did extensive traveling throughout the continental U.S., the Panama Canal, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Estelle was an active member of the Pomfret Senior Citizens, the Quinebaug Valley Seniors, the Windham County Association of Retired Teachers, St. Joseph Parish in Dayville, the Day Kimball Hospital Arthritis Group and founder of the Day Kimball Hospital Widows group.
She leaves her children; William (Judith) Konesni of Pomfret, John (Connie) Kone of Marietta, Ga., Alfred (Meredith) Konesni of Putnam, and JoAnne (Andrew) Mitchell of Bloomfield; daughter-in-law Edith Ostby Konesni of Appleton, Maine; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her special children who held an endearing place in her heart Muriel (Donald) Surprenant, Patricia (Victor) Bedard, and Richard Morrison. She is predeceased by her son Andrew Erwin Konesni in 2006.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m . May 16 in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin at 9 a.m. May 17 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Hartford Pike Dayville with burial in South Cemetery, Pomfret. E. ‘Butch’ Jodoin Jr.,

CHAPLIN — Earl D. “Butch” Jodoin Jr., 57, of Phoenixville Road, died May 14, 2012, at W.W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, after a short battle with cancer.
Butch was born in Putnam, son of the late Earl D. Sr. and Jeannette M. (Martel) Jodoin and lived in Putnam most of his life, moving to Chaplin three years ago. He was employed as a forklift operator at Norampac (Johnson Corrugated) for the past 25 years.
He was an avid sports fan and memorabilia collector. He was a past member of the East Putnam Fire Department and the Putnam Fire Department, Hose Company #2. He also worked for over 20 years in security at the Woodstock Fair.
He leaves two sisters, Rose I. Heath (Steven) of Chaplin, Bernadette “Bridgette” Johnston (Todd) of Vernon; a nephew, Travis Egan and his wife Andrea and their son, Maddix Daniel of Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; a niece, Earlene Ames and her daughters, Mikaela Rose and Khloe Mae, of Thompson.

PLAINFIELD — Jonathan E. Thomas, 62, of Goshen Road, died May 11, 2012, at Day Kimball Hospital.
Jonathan was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, son of the late Lawrence B. and Mariella (Warriner) Thomas. He worked for the State of Connecticut. He was a friend of Bill and had a love for music.
He leaves his wife of nine months, Cynthia J. (Calkins) Thomas of Plainfield; a stepson, Wayne Morse Jr. of Griswold; a stepdaughter, Meghan Morse of Danielson; a step-grandson, Maxsim Morse. He was predeceased by a stepson, Scott Morse.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 1 p.m. May 20 at 122 Chaplin Road, Eastford. Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, Webster.
Hazel M. Kosche,

NICEVILLE, Fla. — Hazel M. Kosche, formerly a resident of S. Woodstock, died May 6, 2012, from complications following a stroke.
She was born Aug. 9, 1922. Hazel accomplished many things in her life - from synchronizing swimming, Registrar of Voters in Woodstock, hostess at Sturbridge Village in Southbridge, Mass., volunteer at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, lay reader and chalice bearer, square dancer, quilter, and lover of horseback riding and all animals.
Hazel loved music and sang in a church choir most of her life. She was a cradle Episcopalian and a member of St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Niceville.
Hazel leaves two sons, William and Eric, their wives, Marilyn and Debra; grandchildren, William, Amanda and Alyssa; and one great-grandson, William “Gus.” She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William.
A celebration of Life Service was May 14 at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, Niceville. Donations: St. Jude’s Episcopal Church, Niceville. National Cremation, Milton, Fla.
